just got back from travelling, have a look on STA travel and then DONT BOOK ANY HOSTELS THROUGH THEM, far too expensive, have a look on travel blog websites such as http://www.getjealous.com you can search blogs by country and get a real picture of where you will be going, have a look on http://www.hostelworld.com, http://www.hostels.com and http://www.hostelz.com they will give you hostel/hotel/camping reviews and city reviews in some cases, borrow a decent travel guide from the librarby, dont buy it cos mostly they arent that useful when your away, try and learn some of the language of where you will be going, will make it much easier.
